Impersonation of the Month
Terry's Tips > Impersonation of the Month
Here's a lateral thinking exercise that I do at two-day workshops.
I ask people to turn their dog into another animal, vegetable, mineral or THING. I give this assignment just before lunch and we start just after lunch. No one knows this ahead of time and there is only an hour to prepare. They have to l ook around for props if they need them. No one is allowed to go to the store. I take their car keys from them. I give them a few hints on possibilities.
Practical?
As far as dog training, this exercise provides practice for tolerance to handling, stays, relationship, cooperation, trust.
Sometimes I say it has to be an animal and then I make them all line up on the floor. We call this the totem pole game. Good practice for stays, being near other dogs - strange looking ones.
